Rivals 3 Stripe Camp New Orleans: Top defensive performers
HARVEY, La. -- The Rivals 3 Stripe Camp New Orleans was held Sunday with several of the nation’s top players turning out to compete. There were many outstanding performances turned in on both sides of the ball. Today we focus on the standouts on the defense.

Recruiting wrap: Harris is committed to Kansas.
Performance: It was a great all around day for Harris, who not only showed out during one-on-ones but was a favorite of the coaches for his performance during drills. Having taller, longer cornerbacks is a priority for many major programs now and Harris fits the mold perfectly.
Recruiting wrap: If Cook decides to stay home, Texas is in good shape, but if he decides to leave his home state, Clemson, LSU and Penn State are the schools that look to be in play.
Performance: Cook was smooth through the drills. When it came time for him to lock wide receivers down, he did. He picked a pass offer early in the session, he had a couple of nice pass break-ups, and one time, a wideout couldn't even get into his route. Cook was Cook, a five-star prospect.
Recruiting wrap: Missouri, Iowa and Kansas are among the schools vying for Parker's commitment.
Performance: Parker already looks like a college defensive lineman, so his showing on Sunday shouldn’t come as a surprise. He was strong and fast when coming off the edge and showed a competitive fire that was impressive. It wouldn’t be surprising to see several more schools join the fight for his commitment.
Recruiting wrap: Clark is committed to LSU, but still plans to visit Alabama and Texas A&M over the summer.
Performance: Clark is an aggressive linebacker who likes to attack and play downhill. He showed some good lateral agility and he was better in coverage than some expected. He has a great frame and he could be the next great linebacker to play in Baton Rouge.
Recruiting wrap: Arizona recently offered Young and his recruitment is starting to pick up. Nevada offered early and the Wolfpack is high on his list.
Performance: Young is a defensive back who looks like a safety on the hoof, but he had a good showing in coverage at cornerback Sunday. He had numerous pass break-ups, he used his size to his advantage and he worked well against some of the top wideouts there.
Recruiting wrap: South Carolina and Wake Forest are among the early favorites.
Performance: The three-star defensive back moved from South Carolina to Louisiana during the offseason and with the way he played Sunday, he fit right in with loaded group of DBs from The Boot. Players of his size aren’t supposed to move the way he does in space and as word continues to get out about his abilities, the Gamecocks and Demon Deacons will have company in the mix for his commitment.
Recruiting wrap: Tate is waiting on his first FBS offer.
Performance: What he lacks in size Tate makes up for in tenacity. He was a constant agitator of wide receivers during the event, breaking up passes and doing just enough to win rep after rep during one-on-ones. Tate has the mentality to be successful and it shouldn’t take long for schools to realize it.
Recruiting wrap: Monjarres has offers from Washington State, East Carolina, Colorado State and several others.
Performance: It wasn’t a great day for the defensive line group, but Monjarres was one of the shining stars at the position. He took a number of reps and won nearly every one, using a nice set of pass rush moves and speed to get to the outside. Only one Power Five school has offered to date, but that’s likely to change.
Recruiting wrap: Texas, TCU, Michigan and several others are in the mix for Jamison’s commitment.
Performance: Jamison could have won the “Mr. PBU” award for all of the passes he seemed to get his hands on during the day's competition. He’s great at breaking on the ball and his instincts were very impressive to see as he did a great job reading receivers to make sure he broke at precisely the right time.
Recruiting wrap: USC, Ohio State, Alabama an several others are in the mix for Neal’s commitment.
Performance: O’Neal is one of the nation’s top safeties and known for his ability to lay the lumber when needed when playing in live games. But on Sunday he really impressed with his ability to cover, especially when lined up against shifty wide receivers in space. He took rep after rep and while he didn’t win them all, he still had a great day.
Recruiting wrap: Brule is committed to Kansas.
Performance: Brule is being recruited as both a safety and a linebacker and he showed his versatility while working in a hybrid role at the camp. He’s very effective in coverage, whether it be against running backs or receivers and he’s just a guy who finds a way to make plays.
Recruiting wrap: Sullivan has offers from Iowa State and Troy.
Performance: The three-star was a late addition to the camp and he made the most of his chance with an impressive showing. He’s listed in the Rivals.com database as a linebacker but his work as a defensive lineman is what impressed on Sunday. He has impressive strength and was great at getting leverage to overpower larger offensive linemen.
