Rivals 3 Stripe Camp New Orleans: Hot college programs

The New Orleans stop of the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas was held on Sunday at West Jefferson High School, and some elite talent was on hand. In addition to performing on the field, we also had a chance to talk with several prospects about their recruitment.

Following the event, we break down the three college programs that should be feeling good about their standing with some of the camp's top players.

The college football recruiting world is always full of surprises, and the Jayhawks have been one of the biggest in recent memory due to their early success in the 2018 cycle. The school’s efforts in Louisiana with elite prospects are well documented, and on Sunday their two biggest commits, four-star wide receiver Devonta Jason and four-star defensive back Corione Harris, turned in stellar days. Harris earned MVP honors for his performance, and while Jason just missed out on the MVP award and he joined Harris in earning an invite to the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge later this year.

But it wasn’t just about the headliners. Several uncommitted players, including defensive line MVP Daniel Parker, spoke highly of Kansas and the approach it is taking in recruiting. For many prospects perception of a program means more than past results, and right now the Jayhawks have the attention of 2018 recruits.

From a recruiting perspective things are off to a relatively slow start for the Tigers, especially when it comes to the highly ranked players from Louisiana in the class of 2018. But when the dust settled on Sunday afternoon, the Tigers had two commits win MVP awards and several other top targets perform well.

Perhaps the star of the entire event was 2019 offensive line commit Kardell Thomas, who dominated any defensive lineman that he battled. Class of 2018 linebacker commit Damone Clark walked away with MVP honors at his position as well and is now in line for a bump in the rankings as a result. Class of 2019 defensive back commit Derek Stingley looks like he could be the next elite member of the Tigers' secondary, and several other players spoke highly of the Tigers, including priority wide receiver target Devonta Lee.

TCU signed four players from the state of Louisiana in the class of 2017 and appear to be making a push to increase that number in 2018. Several uncommitted players from both Louisiana and Texas that were in attendance at the event spoke highly of the Horned Frogs, including quarterback MVP Justin Rogers. The Rivals100 prospect had just returned from a visit to North Carolina, and while he beamed about his time in Chapel Hill, he reiterated that TCU is still his No. 1 school. His teammate and one of the nation’s top receivers, Terrace Marshall, also said TCU is still a school he’s strongly considering. Rogers and Marshall have discussed playing together beyond high school, and if the Frogs could steal both out of the state it would go down as two of the program's best recruiting wins in recent years.
