Passing Down SoCal 7-on-7 Regional: Surprise performers
FONTANA, Calif. - The Passing Down SoCal Elite 7on7 Regional was held Sunday, and many of the top prospects in the region were in attendance. There have already been many passing tournaments this offseason, but surprising performances still continue to pop up each weekend.
Here are five players, some known, some not, who had outstanding showings.
Recruiting: The 2019 prospect has not received any offers yet.
Overview: There has been a lot of talk that Bowman could be one of the next special players at powerhouse St. John Bosco, and he definitely backed it up Sunday. Bowman is a fast outside receiver who can stretch the field and he showed off excellent hands. He made some incredibly tough, highlight-reel catches on the sidelines that wowed even his opponents. Bowman can also line up in the slot and create mismatches that way. Offers could start pouring in soon.
Recruiting: Osborne is committed to Washington.
Overview: The four-star is already in the Rivals250 and a top-20 player in California, but he exceeded even those high expectations and absolutely dominated. The Washington pledge torched defensive backs deep, made tough catches on the sideline and showed off his speed by running under some bad passes. According to his 7-on-7 team, Premium Sports, he scored 17 touchdowns in the tournament. I believe it – and the Huskies are getting a special receiver with great skills.
Recruiting: Oregon and UCLA are the frontrunners, but many others are getting involved in Ezeike’s recruitment.
Overview: There is now an infamous highlight video of Ezeike pushing over a cornerback attempting to jam him at a recent camp, and after seeing him for the first time in person, it’s easy to see how that could have been done. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound receiver is massive, has a huge catch radius and the frame where no defensive backs can muscle him up. Ezeike, who’s only played football for three years, could easily grow into a tight end if he continues to develop physically, but right now he’s agile enough to stay on the outside.
Recruiting: UCLA is the lone offer for the 2019 prospect.
Overview: B2G has pumped out top defensive backs for many years through its 7-on-7 program, and Wright is proving to be one of the possible next big names. The 2019 prospect is aggressive, confident, tough and athletic, so he does not back down to any receiver. At the line of scrimmage, Wright makes it tough for receivers to get off the line, then he sticks with receivers throughout their routes. Plus, he has the athleticism to compete once the ball is coming his way. More Pac-12 offers should definitely be on the way if Wright continues to perform so well.
Recruiting: Hawaii, Nebraska, Nevada, TCU, Texas Tech and Utah State have offered the 2020 prospect so far.
Overview: For someone who just finished his freshman season of high school, it’s incredible how calm and collected Young is in the pocket and delivering passes all over the field. Rarely, if ever, does the 2020 recruit force a pass to the wrong receiver. Instead, Young surveys the field, has no problem checking down to the right wideout and he’s so smooth in his delivery. The Los Angeles Cathedral prospect has the skill and the moxie to be a really special QB in this class, especially if he continues to develop physically.
