Oregon dismisses head coach Mark Helfrich
The University of Oregon announced late Tuesday that it had fired head coach Mark Helfrich. The Ducks finished a disappointing 4-8 this season after beginning the 2016 campaign ranked No. 24 in the AP Top 25 poll.
Helfrich, who was 37-16 in four years at Oregon, led the Ducks to a Pac-12 championship and the College Football Playoff in 2014.
The uncertainty surrounding Helfrich's status has already cost Oregon on the recruiting trail, as top-ranked commit Deommodore Lenoir announced his decommitment from the program earlier in the day.
